The short version

Anemone Player doesn't watch what you watch. The desktop app collects no analytics about your media, your files, your layouts, or how you use it. The only thing it ever sends to us is licensing information — enough to check your licence, count your free demo sessions, and issue a trial. That's it. No usage tracking, no telemetry, no ad networks, no selling your data.

What the desktop app sends us

When Anemone Player starts, it contacts our licensing server for one of a few licensing-only reasons: to validate your licence key, to count how many free demo sessions you've used, to verify a free trial, or to keep your activation slot alive while the app is running. For those purposes it sends:

  • A device fingerprint — a one-way hash derived from stable hardware identifiers on your machine. We can't reverse it to identify your hardware; it exists only to enforce the "one free trial and one free demo allowance per device" rules.
  • Your licence key — if you have a paid or trial licence, so the server can confirm it's valid and not over its activation limit.
  • The app version — so we can support the build you're running.
  • Your name and email — only if you request a free trial from inside the app, because that's how we email your trial key.

The app also checks for updates by fetching a public version file — that involves no personal data.

What the app never collects

We do not collect, transmit, or store anything about what you do in Anemone Player: not the videos or images you load, not file names or folders, not playback history, not the window layouts you build, not which features you use, and no screenshots or content of any kind. The app contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. Your media stays on your machine.

This website

On anemoneplayer.com we keep aggregate, non-identifying counts — page views and download totals — so we can understand traffic and demand. We don't run cross-site advertising trackers. If you start a trial, buy a licence, or use the customer portal, we process the name and email you provide to issue and support your licence, and use a small number of functional cookies to keep you signed in.

Payments

Purchases are handled by our payment providers, Stripe and PayPal. Your card details go straight to them — we never see or store them. We receive only what we need to fulfil your order (your email, the product bought, and a confirmation the payment succeeded).

Email

We send transactional email only — your licence key, trial verification codes, renewal reminders, and receipts. We don't send marketing email and we don't add you to any mailing list.

Who we share data with

We don't sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers we need to run Anemone Player:

  • Stripe / PayPal — payment processing.
  • Zoho Mail — sending transactional email.
  • Microsoft Azure & Netlify — hosting the service and website.

Retention

We keep licence and customer records for as long as your licence is active and as long as we're required to for accounting and legal purposes. Device fingerprints for the demo/trial limits are kept only to enforce those one-per-device allowances.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we'll take care of it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
